Next performances announced: June 2024

April 2024 – Some exciting news! We will be back on stage on 7 and 9 June 2024, in Nairn and Strathpeffer! The programme is still getting finalised, but we can reveal that it will include a celebration of Duke Ellington’s music. He was a real innovator for his time and has written some cornerstone pieces for Big Band. Duke Ellington passed away 50 years ago this year. Performance details

The collective is growing

6 March 2024 – Last Sunday the band got back together after a nice long break, and following the enormous success of our first-ever performances in November 2023. And what could be a better way to get back together than to invite several friends along?! Although some of our core members were unable to come along, we had reinforcements in all ranks: saxophone, trombone, trumpet and rhythm section. And it was particularly great that several of them were young musicians. It is great to be building such a vibrant community of musicians around big band music in the Highlands.

Thank you, Nairn and Boat of Garten!

13 November 2023 – We had a fantastic time playing our programme last weekend, twice for a packed hall! Having such a great turn out is really encouraging, particularly given these were our very first concerts ever. With raving feedback and requests to come back soon we are excited to get preparations started for our next programme. Stay tuned!

We are ready!

7 November 2023 – Last Sunday we had our our final rehearsal, and the gigs are going to be a blast! Although community hall acoustics can sometimes be a bit challenging for a band like us, it is great to be using local village halls for our rehearsals, as well as performances.

A new big band in the Scottish Highlands

10 September 2023 – We are a group of musicians based around Inverness in the Scottish Highlands with a shared passion for big band music. We are excited to announce that preparations are underway for our first two performances ever, which will take place in November. More information about these can be found in the Performances section.

Our repertoire is a masterful fusion of jazz classics, pop hits, and modern compositions, promising a wide ranging sound that appeals to a diverse audience. With a full Big Band lineup that includes 5 Saxophones, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Rhythm Section and the charismatic local vocalist Peter McPherson, we are looking forward to showcasing our bold sound and impressive repertoire throughout the Highlands.

The band is led by Rob Farmer, a local Australian whose experience as trumpet player, arranger and band leader will ensure the performances bring the band’s ambitions and abilities to life.
